"Barge" Padlock

Manufactured by Whellock & Philips, Richard's Old Bargehouse Street, London Pre 1900.

This style of lock is know colloquially as a Barge Padlock and it is a coincidence that this example was made in Barge House street.
The name given to this Padlock comes from the fact that it was almost exclusively used on the barges and lighters plying their trade along the river Thames and other major riverways throughout England.
